Student Film Festival
December 10 – 11, 2016.
Jury: Shilpi Gulati,Avadhoot Khanolkar andNithila Kanagasabai
Jury Report: The jury was delighted to engage with a wide variety of interesting and innovative student films from across the country. The shortlisted films bear witness to the inventive use of the film medium to communicate and to provoke audiences to engage with the world around them. The range of themes, narrative strategies and languages that the films represent are fresh, diverse and truly commendable. The jury would especially like to mark their appreciation of films that focussed on narratives of dissent and resilience in a climate of oppression, and those that brought alive the diversity in this country. This is testimony to the conscience of the society and the potential that resides in young filmmaker.
We would encourage filmmakers to think about notions of gender more closely, and try exploring new treatments to move beyond the conventional narratives of masculinities.
The documentary and short fiction while evidencing quality in terms of production values have also hit the mark for divining the goings on in the contemporary. The attempt by the jury has also been to give due importance to the ethical as much as the aesthetic.
We are grateful for this opportunity to watch and analyse a compelling body of work and wish all the filmmakers and technical teams involved in the production of these films the very best in their future endeavours. Congratulations to all the participants and award winners.
