Artist/Scholar in ResidenceThe Artist/Scholar in Residence Programme brings in eminent practitioners and researchers for a period of one to three weeks to hold a workshop for students. Thus far, workshops have been on themes such as mural making, story telling, protest music, animation design, film and affect, cinema and censorship, cinema in the digital age, gender and sexuality. The artist/scholar also has a public event, organised under the aegis of Culture Cafe. The co-curricular learning opportunities provided by this programme are greatly appreciated by students and add to the vibrant academic environment fostered by the School. This programme is supported by a grant from the Jamsetji Tata Trust.
TISS-MurthyNAYAK Media Fellowship 2016
The 2016 TISS-MurthyNAYAK Media Fellowships are funded by the Murthy-Nayak Foundation (MNF). The School of Media and Cultural Studies (SMCS), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), administers this fellowship.
SMCS and MNF announces one documentary film making fellowship. The fellowship is designed to provide the resources and environment for films that are innovative,relevant and contribute to the growing body of documentary and audio-visual work in India.
The film produced must be made with organisations/movements doing innovative work in any of the following fields:
The fellowship is supported by a grant from the MurthyNAYAK Foundation (MNF) with the view that the production is used strategically by the organisations/movements for sensitisation, mobilisation and fund raising. They will also be used for teaching/training of human service professionals.
SMCS will disseminate and distribute the film/s in consultation with the organisations/movements and MNF. Duration of the production will be 30 mins. In exceptional cases, the duration may be revised in consultation with SMCS.
Last date for receipt of applications has been extended to August 19, 2016. Short-listed candidates called for interview will be notified of their selection by August 23, 2016.

* One Fellowship is available based on the quality of applications. The applicant must produce a letter of interest from the organisations/movements doing innovative work in any of the following fields women & children’s welfare, education, ecology, social justice and human rights.
* A stipend of Rs. 25,000 per month for a maximum period of six months.
* Reimbursement of actuals of production expenses on the basis of a preapproved budget. Maximum budgetary allotment for production is Rs. 2.00 lakhs

The fellowship is open to all Indian nationals. An early career media practitioner is defined as someone who has completed her/his media education not more than 5 years ago. In case of applicants without a media degree, they should have executed not more than 5 projects.
Interviews for the fellowships will be held on the Mumbai campus of TISS. Short-listed candidates will have to come for an interview on September 6, 2016.
Applicants will be notified of selection within a week after the interviews.
Travel will be reimbursed for three tier non-AC train fare against production of valid tickets.
All proposals must be submitted as hard copies and signed by the media practitioner. Each invited media practitioner may send in one proposal only.
* The TISS-MurthyNayak Foundation Fellowship period is between October 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017.
Terms of the fellowship:
Selected fellows will be paid their fellowship amount on a monthly basis and for production expenses in installments as per the timeline and production of the deliverables at each stage. The proposed time-line is indicated below:
The material generated and final product will have to be archived adequately by the fellow in the Digital Archive of the School of Media and Cultural Studies. However, the fellow is free to use the material generated for other purposes, keeping the SMCS and MNF informed of the same. The copyright will be held jointly by SMCS-TISS and the MNF. The film may be disseminated by TISS and MurthyNAYAK Foundation. TISS will be cited in the credits as the Producer of the film, MNF as the sponsor/funder and the fellow will be cited as Director of the said film.
The fellow is expected to adhere to the time schedule s/he proposes. Any changes should be notified and approved in advance.
There will be a commissioning editor(s) and an advisory committee for each project. S/he is expected to keep in touch with the commissioning editor(s)/ advisory committee on a regular basis and discuss and share her/his work at every stage, as indicated in the timeline above.
