Culture Cafe | Cristal Williams Chancellor on the Status of Women of Color in the U.S. Media

The School of Media and Cultural Studies hosted a presentation by Ms Cristal Williams Chancellor, Director, Women’s Media Center on the status of women of color in the US Media on Friday, 10 August. While highlighting the fact that women of color are very are poorly represented both in terms of holding positions of power as well as empowering portrayals, Ms Chancellor focused on how the situation is changing due to ongoing “conversations about gender and racial parity, aggressive hiring and promotion strategies and the avoidance of biased language and imagery — all in an effort to deal with long-held biases that have been barriers to making sure that media represents all voices and all stories.
