Call for Applications for Research Assistants’ positions to study young men and women
The School of Media and Cultural Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, is looking for Research Assistants (2) for four months ( 15 September 2021 – 15 January 2022) for the project “Girls, Youth and Gendered Access to Digital Technologies: Identifying pathways to close the Digital Divide.” The project is funded by the American Jewish World Service, the international development and human rights organization that supports community-based projects in multiple countries across the world.
SMCS, TISS is hoping to hire Research Assistants who will work with the project lead to gather primary data through field interviews and focussed group discussions. One of the RAs will be expected to work closely with young men, and the other with young women from underprivileged backgrounds in Mumbai. The field research study will be conducted in the online and offline modes in Mumbai. In addition to data collection for qualitative analysis, the RAs will also be expected to provide logistical support for filmmaking workshops conducted with the participants as a part of the project.
The School of Media and Cultural Studies, (SMCS) of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai is engaged in media teaching, production, research, and dissemination. A unique feature of the School is the close linkage between its technical and academic work. The work of the School facilitates synergy between research, teaching, and production, all of which are informed by a keen sense of connection with local subaltern cultures of resistance and invention. Production is an important component of the School’s work. Its films are widely distributed and used. The School is also involved in media and cultural studies research.
1. A Master’s degree in gender, women and development studies, sociology, anthropology, political science, English literature, and other allied fields.
2. A track record or trajectory of research experience of working with young women and young men.
3. Knowledge of Hindi and English is a must. Candidates with additional knowledge of Marathi will be given preference.

Number of Positions: 2
25,000 INR per month all-inclusive (subject to tax deduction). We might be able to supply extra funds for any required travel.
